Longhorn Football

Jaxon Marlin and Owen Danker

The Inola Longhorn Football team has started off the season with a strong record of 3-0. They have impressive wins against Sequoyah, Gravette, and Salina. The Longhorns have three new coaches and they have really brought the team together and made them better. Former offensive coordinator at Claremore, Tommy Rodgers has stepped up to be the new Longhorn head coach. New coaches Duke and Stookey have answered the call and really stepped up to help the team. One of Coach Duke’s favorite sayings is “say it with your chest” and I really think that has helped the team talk more on offense/defense during their games and become better leaders. The Longhorns played Sequoyah in week one and came out with the win in a fourth quarter thriller. In week two they played Gravette, Arkansas and ended up winning the game by one point after a last minute drive by the Longhorns and a field goal by senior Jedd Barrett. Week three they traveled to Salina to play the Wildcats, the Longhorns jumped out to an early lead in the first half and maintained their lead throughout the game only to get tied up towards the start of the fourth quarter. On the goal line Jace King punched it in to put the Longhorns up 19-12 and held the lead till time ran out. The Longhorns have really been playing great this season and plan to keep working hard and climbing the ranks.
