Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31. Halloween 2020 will occur on Saturday.

The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts and monsters. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, all saints day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening of all saints day was before known as All Hallows Eve, and later known as Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive parties, trunk-or-treating and fun bonfires.

In Inola people love halloween. Some people prefer to trick-or-trick while some prefer trunk-or-treats and haunted houses. Calvary Baptist is hosting a trunk-or-treat from 6-8 in their church’s parking lot on Saturday, October 31st. First Baptist (another local church) is hosting a trunk-or-treat at their church from 3-5pm on Saturday, October 31st. The Porch is also having a Halloween night. Wednesday the 28th, they will have a costume contest, candy and a message from 6:30 until 8pm.

The school is also doing spook-o-grams. A spook-o-gram is a $2 card that includes a piece of candy, a card and a pop. Another event the school puts on for Halloween is the famous Art Club haunted house. This year’s is called “The Path.” It costs $5 for entry and $3 for re-entry. The Path will take place Sunday October 25th, dusk to 10 P.M. Park in the high school parking lot and follow the signs to the entrance. Enter if you dare…

Another activity Inolans participate in is the Fall Festival for families. This event takes place October 24th, 2-5 P.M. You can find it north of the football field. Masks will be required (especially scary ones!). Cost of entry is $5 per child. Come enjoy trick-or-treating, pumpkin decorating, face painting and more fun.

All of those fun activities recently listed are just a glimpse of all the fun activities and festivities Inola puts on. Being a part of Inola’s community is always fun around Halloween.
