Over the decade there have been many new slang terms introduced to the American language. Words like fam, yeet, shook, mood, basic are only a few examples. We use these words so often that sometimes we do not even realize that we are using them. Many of the terms have become most popular among teens and young adults. Over the past decade there have been at least 100 slang words invented and added to the dictionary. It is crazy how slang is even considered a slang word, and the word slang stands for short language. Slang is a type of language that consists of words and phrases that are regarded as very informal, are more common in speech than writing and are typically restricted to a particular context or group of people. Even just walking down the hallway at school you may hear many slang words if you keep and open ear.  Some words are easy to understand because the word makes sense when using them, while others are not so understandable. Even for young people it is difficult to fully comprehend the use of slang terms. Mood is saying that you feel the same about something, and  shook also means shocked. We asked students around the school what their favorite slang words were.
